LEADERSHIP RESOURCES

The youth expressed their disappointment in the lack of fun and engaging activities within the TMBCI community.  They expressed a desire to have options to engage with their peers outside of school related functions such as sporting and academic/after school activities.  They want to be able to have activities where they can socialize with peers in a safe, alcohol and drug free environment.  What is currently available focuses on a few interests such as sports, physical fitness activities, and random youth dances.  In addition, the youth felt that the options available to them often cost a lot of money, which eliminates participation from those individuals who probably need to participate the most such as those who are at the highest risk of engaging in unhealthy lifestyles.
In addition, the youth would like to engage in youth leadership development activities.  Youth leadership is part of the overall youth development process.  Youth development is a process that prepares a young person to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood and achieve his or her full potential. Youth development is promoted through activities and experiences that help youth develop social, ethical, emotional, physical, and cognitive competencies.  If properly planned, the activities the youth desire can help to foster youth development and youth leadership growth.
