Here’s Why We Stand Out
YOUTH ENGAGEMENT
The youth in our community expressed the need to develop education and prevention strategies that promote the development of healthy living and include drug, alcohol, and tobacco use prevention and education, teen pregnancy and safe sex education programs, suicide prevention, and bullying and violence education in the community. Â The focus areas were established during the TMBCI Youth Summit held in the summer of 2017 and data provided from the 2015 Youth Risk Behavior Survey from the local schools.
The data shows that youth in the TMBCI community engage in unhealthy behaviors such as drug and alcohol use, sexual intercourse, violence and bullying at rate significantly higher than other youth in ND.  Because of the YRBS data and information collected from the Youth Summit, the Youth Council established the following goals, and objectives that will address targeted youth prevention education materials. Youth Council feels that by providing community specific prevention and education activities, the community will see a reduction in the number of students who engage in risky and unhealthy behaviors.
